By including Hammer and NER in their estate plan, Peg and Chris Klug now know that Chan will always have a safe, nurturing place to live at Kentucky House.

My wife, Peg, and I recently updated our estate plan. In the interest of full disclosure, we don’t have an estate; we have a modest home and modest nest egg.

Our son, Chan, has lived at a Hammer home for almost four years. Hammer provides the house, the brick and mortar, as well as all the intangibles that make Chan smile. Money received through fundraising, including estate gifts, makes a lot of those intangibles possible. Money over and above governmental funding is really critical to keep Hammer what it is.

When we were planning our will, of course our kids were first in line. Tracy was easy, but what about Chan? That seemed different. We thought maybe it would be complicated or expensive. But it was neither of those things. In fact it was simple. Right next to Tracy’s name, instead of Chan’s name, we wrote Hammer Residences, Inc. It was inexpensive, easy, and simple.

We did it for Chan, but we also did it for ourselves. We feel really good that after we are gone, our estate will be supporting Chan via Hammer and his caregivers who make Kentucky House his home.

It was a total no-brainer for us. I invite you to consider including Hammer and NER in your estate plan. It just might be a no-brainer for you as well.
